help regarding damp

Hi All

Back in November we found damp in our van, the walls were soft in some places but there was no smell. So we got someone to take and look and he advised that the seals were going so we had them both replaced.

He advised us to put some water absorbers in there which we have (2 rechargeable ones and 2 normal ones) to catch any moisture.

Just wanted to know how long will it take to dry out as still quite spongy but no smell.

Sadly, if the wood is spongy, it means it's likely that it's been damaged by the water, and although it may dry out it may also need to be replaced, particularly if the damp has affected any of the structural bits of the van. There are lots of postings about damp on another forum I use - you could look here for a bit more information about what might be involved:

Hi Tracey,

One thing to bear in mind is that caravans have a lot of permanent vents and unless you seal these all you are tending to dry out is the whole UK atmosphere. It is likely to take a VERY long time to dry out using these small moisture absorbers.

Hope this helps.

Regards Jim
