Hello,

I need a little bit of help and advice as my head is hurting.

I have a 1.6 petrol Ford Focus 2002 with kerbweight 1171kg which gives me an 85% weight of 995kg's and 95% weight of 1112kgs. This is were i'm struggling. The MIRO weight of the Elddis as far as I'm aware is 914kg's and has an MPTLM of 1150kg's. Now i know the MPTLM at 1150kg's is to heavy but if i loaded up the caravan with a maximum of 81kg's of equipment to take it up to 995kg's would this be ok.

Many thanks for your help.

The 85% weight ratio recommendation always compares the MTPLM of the caravan with the kerbweight of the car and therefore always represents the worst case, not the actual condition. Any calculation based on something less than the MTPLM is meaningless really as it cannot be compared with any other data. If you intend not to abide by standard practice, then this is a decision that you can only take yourself. No-one can say whether it is OK or not so long as you stay within the car manufacturer's specified towing limit. That is the only really important limit that determines whether you are OK.
