help with kettle

hi going away on monday for our 1st trip in a caravan. i know this is a stupid question but can i use kettle, toaster and tv that i would use in the home or do i need to buy speaical ones.

i know i've left it a little late to be asking question like this but just making a list of things i need to get.

thanks from some one who knows nothing.

Ann & Keith, the answer is you can use your own toaster, your own Tv and Kettle after saying that I know some choose to use a low wattage kettle ,just try avoiding to use them all at the same time as you may just throw the trip at your electric hook up.

This of course depends on the ampage of your hook up.

I hope this helps

Sir Roger

If you use a Club site then you wiull get electricity at 16 amps. This will give you 3600 watts which will run any domestic kettle as these are usually rated at 2000 watts. A domestic Toaster will similarly take around 1000-1500 watts. However, putting them all on at the same time could lead to the circuit blowing.

Most caravanners try to get low wattage items for use and you can get kettles and toasters that will only use 1000 watts or less. Yes, they are a bit slower but you are on holiday so what the heck. You do not necessarily have to go to a caravan showroom to get these items as they can be expensive, you can get low wattage items in any supermarket, just have a look at the lable on the back, or bottom and look for the watts. if it is 1000 or less then it is fine.

However, if you ever decide to go to France etc then be very careful as many sites really cut back on the amperage they will give you and some meany sites will only give enough for lightbulbs.

Hi,

Try checking out the wattage on the Value/Basics toasters in Tesco's and Sainsburys - they are normally pretty low wattage (often about the same as the ones the caravan shops sell) - and a lot less money

(Wattage should be on a label on the bottom of the toaster).

Normal domestic kettles seem to range from 2000 to 3000 watts - that's 8.7 to 13.0 amps - most caravans have two internal circuits, one of 5 amp the other of 10 amp, so you may trip the caravan even if the site circuits can cope. If the heating or hot water is also on at the same time your total demand will go even higher.

Low wattage kettles for campers are about 750 watts (3.3 amp) so should be ok to use anywhere.

Many caravanners will tell you they just use a domestic kettle - many wardens will tell you how often they have to reset site electric trips.

We use a low wattage kettle that we bought from a carravan accessory shop and tucked away in the bottom cupboard is a 'whistling kettle' so that if we're not on ehu or there is a power failure we can still have that all important cuppa

thanks every one for all your good advice. i'm off to shops in the morning to get low wattage kettle.

thanks again.

i'll let you all know how we get on with our 1st trip; and all the little problems we have or should i say big ones.
