Help with my wireless router

I've been away for a few months and in the meantime my ISP has changed my connection details. I've managed to reset everything on my PC to access the internet through the cable into the wall, but am not getting anywhere with my LINSKY router. Can anyone out there tell me what I need to do and how to do it. When I try to connect using wireless, the PC says its detected the wireless connection, but when I try to log on I get a message to say that the remote server cannot be detected and I don't know how to reconfigure the router and can't find any sensible plain english information on the user guide on how to do this. It doesn't help that I am an extremely technically challenged person, so any help will be most apprectiated.

Hi Sian,

I don't know much about it myself but from what you have written you seem to be saying that the incoming cable to your home is fed straight into the computer so bypassing the router. It has to go into the router first then out of that either by a cable to the computer or by wireless.
