Greetings All,

I thought the above subject had been done to death. I thought?(aximoron the wife says,) I understood the subject but, this morning the C and CC Club mag dropped through the door and it contained the following; (I apologise if I am standing on copyright toes)

"I am about to renew my licence as I am approaching 70. I see from the literature that I will lose some categories I have held for years unless I have form D4 filled out by my GP. Will I need to downsize my caravan car combination - a Land Rover Discovery and an Elddis Sirocco Super Storm"

ANSWER

" No, your outfit will be fine on your new licence. The licence includes Category B for outfits up to 3500kgs and also Category BE (or B+E) which includes a car up to 3500kgs plus a trailer up to the cars towing limit. You will only need to ask your GP for Form D4 if you want to keep categories C1 (light trucks up to 7500kgs- useful if you fancy a large motohome in the future and D1 which includes minibuses".

After all the previous comments on this subject I thought I had understood that outfits (car + caravan) with a combined Gross weight (phrase used for clarity) of over 3500kgs were out for the over 70's unless they had the D4 signed.

Where did I go wrong?

Hello del, have a look at Practical Caravan Feb. 2009 page 112 where it is all set out very clearly. Or look at www.dvla.gov.uk and trace through to Towing.
