Hello everyone, we are now coming into our 3rd season with our van, 2006 Lunar Delta 640 ew, which we absolutely love. We are on a seasonal pitch at St Andrews, beautiful area with great clean beaches and some lovely walks. Living the dream.

hi ton, I think you are probably the first member from the old Kingdom, so welcome.

But I have to say, I HATE SEASONAL PITCHES!

That will probably get me banned, so welcome and goo

Surely you wont be banned for expressing an opinion. For us personally, I cant think of a single negative of the seasonal pitch we have ( which includes winter storage ), we absolutely love the area and the people on the other seasonal pitches are all a friendly lot. Each to their own I suppose. Oh, and thanks for the welcome

Emmo was joking, nobody is getting banned for anything
rolleyes.gif

We had a seasonal pitch for a number of years when I was ill and couldn't manage touring, and my best mate still has his which he's held for a number of years. The seasonal pitch works for him because as soon as he's finished work on a Friday he's off, with no setting up to do he just parks his car, plugs in the ehu and he's sorted
smiley-laughing.gif

Personally we still enjoy visiting different places and the freedom to travel when and where we want to go but with the spiralling cost of fuel I'd never completely rule out returning to seasonal caravanning.

Sorry, tony, that's just my twisted sense of humour. No, I'll not be banned for that. It has to be something serious, like knocking Parksy's haircut! But I do hate seasonals!

Lol, thought ho no, not another forum that you can't say boo to ghost. But after reading some threads it seems that there is some lively debates going on !! Can't for the life of me know why I love our seasonal pitch......................ho yeh, only 50mins from the house, set in a beautiful area of Fife, we roll up on Friday tea time and instantly chill, no packing / unpacking to do, no towing to do, no awning to erect, we can spend the whole weekend just relaxing, then we dont leave until sunday night. We do this every weekend. Lifes a ***** I know, but i'll soldier on, lol. Still have the option of touring for our summer holidays if we fancy as we dont lose our pitch if not there. I think hate is a strong word. Any particular reason for the hatred ?

Hi Ton, a big welcome to you always nice to have newbies on the forum, reading your post you got me thinking for a minute
seasonal looks quite appealing then after the minute was up I decided to stay touring, I actually enjoy the towing and setting up but would not rule out seasonal when health and finances dictates.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm sure there are pros & cons for everything we do in life, and wouldn't it be boring if we all did the same thing. I'm glad you enjoy the towing and setting up, but due to some health issues, the seasonal pitch suits both my wife and I at the moment. It's great just to get away from the house and totally relax, and mix with like minded people, which is probably the reasons we all do it, whether you are touring or going to the same place each week.

Hi Tony. To each his own, mate, and as I get older, I can see tha advantages of not towing, setting up etc.
BUT, caravan sites are designed for TOURERS. If I want the advantage of not towing,I'll buy a static, which has everything I might require, but doesn't block a pitch that a genuine tourer could use.
As caravans get more and more popular, we "wanderers" need all the pitches we can get!

Hi emmerson, the park we are on only caters for seasonal pitches (30), and only take overnighters if there is a space (rare). So we are not blocking a pitch for "genuine" tourers. So, not ALL caravan sites are designed for touring ! We still have the option of touring if and when health / wanderlust returns. Wouldn't fancy towing a static ! It suits US. Lets just enjoy ALL forms of caravaning and the freedom it avails us.

Yes, some fantastic scenery up here. I also love the Lake District, as my parents had a static at Flookburgh, and spent my childhood most weekends / holidays there.

Nobody has to justify their personal choice and what suits one person may not suit another. Please let's remember Emmerson that everybody's personal circumstances are not the same. You do what you want to do, and allow others to do as they want to do, without offering unasked for opinions on their personal choice. I think that your inference that Ton ought to 'buy a static' is bordering on being offensive, and is certainly not what I'd expect or want to see in a thread where a new forum member has taken the time and trouble to introduce themselves.

Welcome Mr Ton,

I wasn't going to say anything but at least you have a decent Lunar which I am sure you will use as and when you want as a Tourer at some time in the future.
smiley-undecided.gif
.
Whilst I too am no fan of seasonal sites I do understand the day may come when the old bones and muscles no longer enable me to tow. So a seasonal may be a good compromise. Plus you are bound to have the same sort of problems as us tourers with your Lunar.
smiley-cry.gif
Leaks, spongy floor , cracked tyres, leaking water and gas appliances , failed fridges, failed heating systems, failed water pumps, seized hitches and brakes etc
smiley-kiss.gif

May I just say this. Because it is a semi static "seasonal" you should still have it fully serviced by a competent caravan engineer annually .
Only this week an elderly couple in their "static " were killed by Carbon Monoxide .
smiley-cry.gif

Be safe and healthy however you choose to caravan.

Parksy/Tony, please accept my sincere apologies for any offence caused. That was not my intention; I simply expressed my personal opinion ie, tourers are for touring, statics are for staying!

Thanks for the advise Dustydog, but yes we do have the caravan serviced every year, even though we dont use the gas. I have been well impressed with the Lunar, its a well thought out van with plenty of storage / space. The only problem we have had is that the shower tray cracked ( now repaired with new tray ) and, as you say, a "spongy" floor just as you come in the door. But overall a great van.
kind Regards
Tony

Thank you for your apology which is accepted without reservation Emmerson

Tony, Emmerson is a long standing respected and highly valued member of this forum who is liked by everybody and as a tourer owner I can see the point that he was trying to make.
The problem for me was that the point was repeated in the introductory thread that you opened as a new forum member. You may well have a thick skin, and I'm pleased to see that you can give as good as you get and will probably enjoy the jokes and banter that most of us enjoy on this forum.
But what if you hadn't had a thick skin, and it had taken a bit of courage to make that first ever forum post?
What first impression would other potential forum members casually browsing whilst considering forum membership, who may not be as robust as yourself, have if they could see an experienced forum member having a bit of a dig at a newbie in his very first thread while the moderator looked on and did nothing?
I have to consider the wider implications for the forum as a whole, that's why I stepped in

Gosh Parksy, is that really me you're talking about?

Tony, Herself and I find ourselves with a few weeks to spend north of the border from abouty the 16th June to early July. We'll probably spend some of that time in Skye (again), but have nothing planned. If we find ourselves in the old Kingdom we may just invite you for a dram. (a very wee one mind, cos we're poor pensioners!)
