In answer to replies. I contacted the AA on this issue I have pasted their reply. The carrying of reflectorised waistcoats in vehicles is compulsory in Spain,

Portugal and Italy, this will also become compulsory in Austria from the 1st

May 2005. It appears that more and more EU countries are enforcing this regulation,

however at present we have no further information about other EU countries

bringing this regulation into force in the near future. Should you have any queries please do not hesitate to call. hope this helps everyone.
 
Also remember its a high vis vest for everyone in the car, Germans are now toying with the idea aswell

Hi-vis vests are only required in Germany for commercial drivers, not for private motorists. An advisory to carry them is, however, in effect.
