High mileage towcar??

Hi all, looking for a towcar to pull our 1250kg mtplm caravan right now and really fancy either a Passat estate or Accord estate (both diesel and both would pull at under 85%). Have seen nice exaples of both with dealer history at good prices but they have around 100k miles, I have a Tdi golf with similar miles that runs perfect but its not used for towing, i am a caravan novice so am wondering if the extra stress is likley to be a problem??

Any opinions?, Thanks Chris

Hi Chris,

I may be wrong (and I do not know which Golf variety you have,) but I would have thought it might be a reasonable match for your caravan - you do not have to stick religiously to the infamous 85% guideline. It would be cheaper to add a towbar than to replace the car!

I tow a caravan of MTPLM 1150Kg with a Golf Mk4 TDI130 estate and it performs excellently.

Enjoy your holidays,

Thanks for the reply Trevor, Its not my Golf we are selling its my wifes Nissan Qashqai (i did not make it very clear, sorry), hopefully for what we get for it we can buy a good towcar aswell as the caravan which we have already bought. The Golf would have towed the van pretty well i think (its a gttdi 150) but its not really big enough anyway for all the things we need for 2 small kids.

Thanks again Chris
