Hills out of Bilbao / Santander

The road inland from Santander - A67 - is a long steep climb. Is the road out of Bilbao any less steep? We are planning next winter in La Manga and are looking for the least tough route.

Thanks in advance.

The A68 out of Bilbao towards Vitoria is well engineered. The steepest gradient rises 500 mtrs in 26 miles. With a reasonably matched outfit, you need have no worries. Dual carriageway with no severe bends.

Greetings,

As John Stated, the road is well engineered but I can tell you that Northern Spain can be a cold place out of the summer months.

On the first Monday in March this year, the Bilbao to Vitoria road came to a grinding halt because of jackknifed lorries and other traffic that couldn't climb the gradient.

Hi John do you know any sites around the Santander area we can stop at. We have two dogs so Joel is out of the question as they don't accept dogs. We stayed ay Molinos but it was very bad and any sites close to the port would be great.

Hi, Santillana del mar camping, open 365 days, accept dogs, great village to visit anyway. and 20 miles west of santander.

large outfits may be difficult to park if you arrive on spec, book and they will have a large outfit pitch reserved.
