Help! Currently towing with Honda Accord - lovely car but soo-o thirsty!

Towing a Bailey Ranger 460/4, fairly light as they go, I believe.

Can anyone suggest something reliable but with good mpg for towing?

Thanks

Hi Christine

We are looking at upgrading our Bailey Discovery 300 MTPLM 1156kg to the Ranger 460/4 which has MTPLM 1172kg if my memory serves me (children getting older going to bed later so not needing separate early bed arrangements), would be interested to know if you use yours as 2 or 4 berth. Anyway we tow our current caravan with a Skoda Octavia 1.9tdi hatch, develops 105bhp, kerbweight 1500kg, max tow 1400kg so weights are spot on. We return 52-55mpg solo and 35-38 towing the van. This is our fourthe Octavia and I have to say I think they represent excellent value towcars.

I tow with a Peugeot 406 2.0 HDI which gives 100 bhp my caravan is a Compass Rallye with an MTPLM of 1400 and it tows it well therefore I cant see you having any trouble with you rvan as it is considerably lighter than mine also it returns about 45 mpg and 35 when towing!!

Here here Ian! I have a 2001 Octavia 110BHP Tdi Estate, now having covered 170,000 miles. She regularly returns over 55 MPG solo, doesn't use a drop of oil, and will tow upto 1300Kgs, returning around 34-38 MPG with our Elddis Odyssey 524 hanging on the back. I hasten to add that we tow the van EMPTY as it weighs around 1240Kgs M.i.r.o, close to the 1300 Kg limit of the car. I have owned the car from new, and over those miles and years, it only broke down once when the water pump went-at 101,000 miles!
