hitch damper

Hi all,

can anyone help ive just purchased a abbey spectrum 418 ., 1998 model when i picked it up it had a clunk when breaking and pulling away ? so had a new hitch damper fitted but im still getting a cluncking not as bad has before , is there anything else that could cause this or anything else i should check

thanks

Its very hard to diagnose clunks at a distance. Could you get a helper to stand nearby (not between the car and van please) and listen to establish the area from which the noise is coming. It could be either the van hitch or towcar hitch area that needs to be investigated. These might be the obvious areas, but car and caravan suspensions might also be suspect, as could be insecure gas bottle, leisure battery or indeed any items in the van front locker or car boot....A lot to consider so it needs narrowing down.

Check Tow Ball size thats another thing.Have you tried pushing the damper in by hand ?Is there any resistance trying to push it in
Sir Roger .
