Hi

If you book a pitch and either pay for it in full before you arrive or pay in full when you arrive, what happens if:

1. You need to cancel the pitch due to a bereavement or serious illness to a family member?

2. You arrive on site but part way through your holiday you have to go home due to the above.

Can you get insurance cover for this?

Lisa, you can get insurance for both of those eventualities. Be very careful though, I have been offered insurance by sites at what appears an attractive rate but on checking the policies they are very restrictive.

If you have paid a deposit and cancel before arrival then you will most likely loose the deposit and insuring against that could cost as much as the deposit - if you can get cover that is.

If you have to pay all fees up front, say a month in advance then you should be able to get cover BUT as I said check the small print.

Thanks Ray I don't know what to do really. I have booked somewhere, I guess I'll have to see what happens over the next two months.

It is in many cases down to the site owner and any T&Cs that they have.Travel insurance will in some case cover this,I had to come early from France in 2005 due to bereavement but only lost one night and the minimum claim was higher than the one night. The following year I had to cancel everything due to my wifes ill health and we claimed and only paid I think

Thanks Plotts,

Where do you get insurance from and do you have to declare this sort of thing when you take the policy out?
