I know that there have been previous discussions on the topic of Euros, if only I would have taken notice!! With the pound falling sharply in value, especially against the Euro, it'd more important than everto get the most for your money.

As is the norm. I left obtaining our Euros in preparation for our holiday to the Vendee on Tuesday (can't wait now!). I took a trip to the Post Office on Saturday and was shocked at the low exchange rate currently on offer. Only got an exchange rate of 1.19 Euro to the £. Somewhat different from last year when we got 1.58.

Still, we won't let it spoil our holiday and the great weather this weekend has certainly got the whole family in the mood for our break. The van is loaded and only one more day in work. Yippeeeeee....

You should get a Nationwide debit card for your next holiday - and use it in the ATMs in France. When the post office was offering 1.21 in May we actually got 1.27 from our Nationwide card, and there's no commission or transactions fees at all - just a straight exchange rate. It also seemed to help us keep our spending down, since we didn't just have a 'stock' of euros to keep dibbing into. We had to draw money out, just like at home, and it made us keep more of an eye on our spending.

Hi Gill,

We wont be far from you in the Vendee. We are going to Bretignolles-sur-Mer, which is about 10 kms north from where you are going. It's in the CC booklet (A26)Camping La Trevilliere. Taking the overnight sailing, Portsmouth to St. Malo.

Take a look at metcheck.com and navigate through the site until you get to La Rochelle for up to date weather forecast for the area. it's quite a good site for weather.

Have a great trip.
