Holland

We are going to Holland for the second time this summer. We are going on the first ferry out of Harwich on a Saturday morning. We found that when arriving at the port last year many caravaners had slept in their caravans at the port overnight. Has anyone done this and if so what time is best to arrive at the port.

I'd check to make sure that sleeping in the caravan is permitted. On most crossings it isn't, for good reason - in case of an emergency, no-one will know that there are passengers on the car deck and fire doors may be locked shut. Even where permitted - I know it is on a few Mediterranean crossings - it is therefore not a very good idea to stay in the vehicle or caravan.

Sorry, I misread your question thinking you were planning to sleep in the caravan during the crossing, not in the port, as you said.

Dont quite know what Lutz is on about, I think there is a misunderstanding there somewhere.

Anyway, I havent travelled out of Harwich, but some good friends of ours went out just last weekend. They allow you to arrive anytime, and you can pitch up on an area adjacent to the ferry area for your overnight sleep. I am reliably informed that the Staff even come and knock you up, just in case your alarm doesnt go off! A bit of noise when the lorries start up, but at least you are there.

Hope that helps.
