Honda CR-V towbar / towball

Hi

I have just read another thread re towballs which has made me think. I have just ordered a CR-V and asked the dealership to put on a fixed towbar/ball. I tow a Bailey Ranger with an ALKO stabiliser. I am wondering whether the towball that the dealership fit will be OK for the stabilser. Someone mentioned that a special towball is needed to go with the ALKO.

Has anyone had the standard towbar fitting and is it OK with the stabilier?

Thanks

Neil

I'm only aware of the official Honda detachable set up. If they do an official fixed ball it is probably a swan neck so should be OK.

However, it is quite possible that they will sub the work to a local fitter who could be fitting any aftermarket towbar. If this uses a bolt on towball then only the Al-Ko ball will be suitable. Even if the clearance from the bumper is sufficient, a generic towball is unlikely to allow sufficient articulation of the hitch to enable it to work properly.

I think you need to find out, if you haven't already, exactly what they are planning to fit.

Thanks - I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Another thought - the new CR-V has TSA - Trailer Stability Assist - this probably depends on using the Honda dedicated plug in trailer wiring. Might be worth quizzing them about that as well.

Just for future reference I have been advised that the standard Honda fixed towbar is a swan neck and therefore compatable with most, if not all hitches.
