I've towed an older lighter Senator 5000 TA with a the new CRV and the new Freelander. Found the CRV a far more pleasant car, more seating space and more boot space.
The LR has more power but you wouldn't know as the CRV is in 2WD drive most of the time. Loved the CRV and it was more economical to.
I tow a single axle with this car and find it a very good tow car, and extremely comfortable. It is however, not a 'full size' 4 X 4, and does not have an enormous kerbweight, so unless you have a lightweight twin axle, I would think that you need to look at something heavier to pull it with.
Yes we tow a Bailey Ranger 620/6 with a 2005 model - no real problems. However as others have cautioned it is a relatively compact car. Only problem is 1st gear is becoming hard to engage and I have had the clutch slipping a couple of times. Don't know if this is down to towing as my cars do not have an easy life solo.
