Honda CRV 2.2 Dielsel -- Tow Bar

I am going to pick up my Honda CRV on Saturday with some excitement as never had a 4x4 before all be it a small one,and will be fitting a tow bar etc the weekend.

Please can anybody help me in letting me know if I need swan neck tow ball or space plate due to spare wheel appearing to be in the way. Any Info on this would help and any comments on towing ability of this car would be welcome.

The new CRV has Trailer Stability Assist, check that the towing electrics are compatible as I was told by a friend with a new CRV that there can be an issue with after market wiring.

Kevin, I assume this is a CRV II as the current model CRV does not have a rear mounted spare wheel.

You can get a fixed bar for these, but from 2005 MY the number plate is in the centre of the bumper and a fixed towball will partially obscure the number plate. A detachable is therefore preferable.

The ball itself does sit directly under the spare wheel but has not caused me a problem. The wheel cover is very close to the caravan brake lever on our Eriba, but has not so far come into contact AFAIK! Depending on the type of stabiliser fitted, the lever might be obstructed by the spare - you can get a detachable handle for the Al-Ko 2004/3004 to help with this, or you can probably hitch up with the door open. We have an Al-Ko 1300 which, having a short lever, does not cause a problem.
