Honda CRV spare wheel

I was going to buy a new Santa Fe but finished up buying a Honda CRV instead, don't ask as its a long story but Honda are doing some good deals at the moment and I walked into the showroom at the right moment.
Anyway the CRV comes with a space saver spare wheel and I've always said I would never go caravanning without a full size wheel. In the end it turned out that converting the boot to accept a full size spare took all of 30 minutes and you cannot tell by glancing in the boot. After fruitless googling and scrap yards I purchased an earlier version CRV steel wheel from a Honda main dealer for £150 and the appropiate tyre from my local tyre depot. I have done a trial fitting of the new spare to the car to ensure all is OK. All that was needed in the boot was to raise the original floor about 1 inch with battens which sit easily around the lip and secured with velcro. The original spare retaining bolt is actually marked up as "full size" and "space saver", you just alter the retaining piece of plastic by 180 deg.
Hope this is useful.

It is, i believe a new CRV is due next year, hopefully with the more powerful engine now seen in the Accord, something around the 170bhp mark.
The spare wheel scenario is the same for the Kuga apparently.
The Xtrail wheel well takes a full sized spare with out modification.

Manufacturers seem to adopt one of 4 different policies:-
Full size alloy spare wheel to match the road wheels
Full size steel spare wheel which matches dynamically but not visually
Space-saver spare
No spare at all, just a puncture repair kit

The later two being increasingly adopted on cars with stupidly small boots as it's the only way they can carry much luggage - and an increasing number of space-saver fitments just don't have space for a full-sized spare, even at extra cost.

Ive got the older model CRV(06 reg) and my spare is mounted on the rear door.
Its good to have the extra space in the boot but a bit of a pain when hitching/unhitching to caravan.
