Hot water not working.

Dear All,

I have a very old 1970s Portman Executive 4 berth with bathroom. I have recently trying the water system on board. The cold water system works well. There is a pump and this works. There is a boiler in kitchen and the hot water taps are connected. However the pump does not seem to be connected to the hot water system. Am i best to break into the system and combine the hot and cold by using the same pump or fit a separate pump to the hot water boiler inlet. PS does anyone have old manuals or schematics for this type of caravan?

Kind Regards

Dany Mitchell

Hello dany,

I suspect I have bad news for you.

In 1970 there were no dedicated water heaters designed for caravans. It is therefore highly likely that you have a domestic open flued instantaneous water heater.

These are no longer permitted to be fitted or used in small dwelling places (Touring caravans are very small dwellings!) because the flue arrangements can flood the room with products of combustions, or un-burnt gas.

My advice is to seek the help of a professional gas fitter to replace the heater with a more modern safer unit. This is not a DIY job.
