hot water system

help please,.
the hot water in my 2004 swift 530se is draining back from the taps into the outside storage tank and over night is emptying the water heater
now the electric heater is not working but the gas heater is.

can anyone help me solve the problem please and effect a cure.

regards terry

You possibly have two problems - a non-return valve has failed and you also a leak somewhere to let air in so the water can drain out through the valve. If the water heater was switched on in an empty tank then the element would fail.

thank you for the quick reply.
I intend to spend the rest of the day trying to find where the faults are and do a repair.

the electric heater was on over night.

just spent a couple of hours looking for leaks on the hot and cold pipe work,.....all the blue to blue and red to red connectors appeared to be ok, then turned my attention to the heater itself and this is where the problem lay,....
on the side of the heater there are 2 stainless steel pipes sticking out,one for cold water in one for hot out..,they are connected to the plastic pipe work with two elbow joints and these were loose but not leaking,.....after tightening both up with a spanner ,then filling with water and switching on electric heater all is well.)but.i will keep my fingers crossed just incase)

I am happy and thank you Woodland Camper for your advice.
regards terry
