How long should it last

At easter we are going to our favourate site but unfortunatly it seems everybody else is too and there is no hook ups left so we have run on our battery for the first time.

As we hav'nt done this before we would like to know how long the battery will last and some tips on how to make it last as long as possible.

We have got a little generator which we got from aldi last week which has a battery charge on it does anyone know how long it would take to charge the battery of a genny.

Thanx,

I have been out for 18 nights on the Caravan battery, but you have to watch what you burn lighting wise,if you do go flat you can always plug into your car battery,,Regards Ed

Hi Andy,

You need to provide more information - it's fairly obvious that a 55AH battery only holds half the charge of a 110AH battery, and that 12 Volt 5 Watt bulbs use half the energy of a 10 Watt bulb.

However these generalisations will suffice:

1. Run the fridge on gas

2. The pump in an Aqua-Roll has a high current demand

3. Each 10 Watt bulb will use approximately 1 AH for every hour it is switched on.

4. If you use a radio or LCD TV, then these could use between 2 AH and 5 AH for every hour switched on - more if the TV is the old "tube" type

Cheap Generator:

Take care - only use this to charge the battery when disconnected from the van circuit - cheap generators are not voltage regulated and can provide too much voltage - even on the 12 Volt circuit.

Check the power output of the battery charge function - then every Amp it can produce will replace 1 AH of use from last night.
