it's now just one driver but she's done the complete round trip to Spain and back twice 3500 miles each time includinf the ferries
Wow that is fantastic ! Its something I aspire to do one day but am a bit nervous of driving on the continent until I am more experienced at towing in the UK !

You want to get yourself abroad and try it , i was worried my first time but now I would rather drive abroad any time compared to the UK! much better roads & you don't venture down any potholes !!

i do all the towing in my house as i hold c+e licence so its a given. i like the wife did not have the +e entitlement on licence, i did all my hgv licences so upgraded mine but the wife will not go in for the b+e course. i let her have a go towing it on the storage site but she said it just seemed to big and scary.

i think it is always best if your partner has a licence they should get the entitlement incase of any emergencies that may arise.

i will work on her :p

Towing in Europe is generally more relaxing than in UK ( at least in Western European countries) particularly if you use the autoroutes. No roundabouts, no pedestrians, no cyclists to worry about plus usually good rest areas. But of course you have to pay the tolls which can be considerable. No such thing as a free lunch.

In our case we both have b+e because we passed our test so long ago! ....however my wife has never towed. I don't think that just because she has the legal entitlement it would be a very good idea for her to tow for the very first time in an 'emergency situation'.

This leads to a questionable situation with regard to breakdown insurance: this usually provides for a chauffer if necessary to recover the car and/or caravan if there is no other qualified and capable driver able to do so . Clearly if no-one else in the party has b+e this will not be an issue ......but in the scenario above??

Having a spare driver in case of illness or an incapacitating accident would seem pretty crucial to me - especially as we get older and that bit frailer.
