Going to Le mans for the 24hr race in June and will be camping 'wild'.

We intend to take a cheapo generator to top up the van battery - believe me, noise will not be a problem! But will use gas for water heating, fridge, cooking, etc for a week. We have two propane cylinders in the gas locker, will these be enough? Do I need to take a third?

Somewhere on these appliances there will be a gas rate stated, and you can work it out. As for carrying a third bottle, I don't think the law permits you to do so.

This would be the law that, as far as I'm aware, prevents the transportation of unsecured cylinders. Since most 'vans only provide location/fastening for two most can't legally carry three. You can't legally carry a cylinder in your car either.

If they are 7kg Propane to give you an idea of the life of this size of bottle one year we bought a full one just before Christmas. We arrived on site on Christmas Eve lunchtime cooked dinner that night, Christmas Turkey Christmas day (15lb Turkey in a caravan oven: keeping the door closed was a ******) it was a Crown. We cooked everyday through to New Years day. Went away for Easter Weekend, a week at Spring half term and 17 days in Spain he gas bottle did not run out until half way through bacon on August Bank Holiday Sunday and that was only because we ran the fridge on he gas. So 2 7kg bottles should see you alright for Le Mans weekend: Unless you are selling BBQ'd food all day and selling the use of your shower for a premium.

Have fun

Well, we will be running the fridge non stop to keep the beer cold, and using the shower occasionally!

But I think for a week we will be okay then, especially with a Genny to back us up.

Cerbera.

Explain camping wild please.

Le Mans will be booked by now at most sites and for race week you can't just pull in anywhere.

If you have not been before, the police close of much of the track and you can only get to approved positions.

If you have not got a pitch booked do it now. My pitch is right behind the pits ;-)

Water can be an issue at some sites, so you may have a problem for showers.

John is right, two bottle. should do the job easy.

Make sure you do Indianapolis and Arnage complex at night and Virage de Mulsanne at the end of Mulsanne if you can.

A small FM radio or mobile phone with FM to an ear piece so you get can get English Radio Le Mans is a must if you want to know what is going on.

Thanks for that cris, but it's my third year!

Ferry, camping and Gen admission all sorted. Water can be a problem, but we'll be in Maison Blanche and have 2 x aquarolls and an on board tank.

First year with the van though, fed up with my Argos 2 man tent.

Camping 'wild' - no elec hook up, etc ,etc.

Good man.

You will have seen me then ;-)

If you do the paddock walk look out for the big bloke who will hopefully be limping around the pits and paddock.

Keep the flag flying for Roll Centre they are mates of mine and running Pescarolo this year and Martin's an ex Cerbera racer ;-)
