I’ve gradually been clearing out the loft as it’s a bit torturous getting up there, and I reminded by my wife of a friend who fell out of his loft and ascended to a higher place. It’s now empty so my next job was to sort out the mega number of slides from my father and all of ours since the early 1960s.

After a rough sift of wants and don’t wants I decided to see how they projected and brought the old projector and screen downstairs. It was a filthy morning so I set them up in the lounge and brought a few slide boxes down to show to my wife. After finishing I thought I’d just read the instructions for the projector and was so surprised to see that its original as supplied state had no plug attached, just a three core open ended cable. Wouldn’t be allowed these days.

Are you planning to digitise your favourites? I have the same dilemma with slides dating back from about 50 years ago ‘when I were a young lad’!
Yes I’ve been doing some in slow time but decided it was something I needed to make more progress on especially as the slides do not give anyone a clue as to who or what is on them. Wheras digitised I can append notes for information. When going through my Dad’s I came across two of me on my first motorbike which I did not remember he must have taken in 1964.

Yes I remember the days before moulded plugs, back when folks were trusted to use a screwdriver and entrusted to know which wire went where. I've still got a box in the garage with plugs in it, I'll have to show my daughter one day, it'll blow her mind!

Just last year my house ( rented) was completely rewired. The fuse box had 6 of those old black bakelite fuses in it. If a fuse blew I had to remove them 1 by 1 to find the blown 1. After locating it, I put a new bit of wire in it. Now I have a unit all clearly marked and reset buttons, technology! Ahh ,the guid auld days.
