Hi Stephen,

Hello,

Glad you are enjoying the project. I was sat on site looking at bloke who built up his sat dish kit and thought 'I reckon I could make one of them' I was shocked at how cheap it could be done.

Ours works really well, but I had to modify the washing line slightly to stop the centre post spinning. I'd love to see photos of other people's completed kits.

Hello all

The Maplin kit doesn't have a tripod with it, so it needs to be mounted on a flat surface. It looks like it has suckers on the feet so could be stuck on a caravan roof. Bit of a pain to align up there though. The cheapest tripod system is

I have the LIDL kit which is the same as the Maplin one (they all come from the same manufacturer) and the sucker system is designed to go on a vertical surface, I have used it on the side of the van on numerous occasions.

As has been said it doesn`t come with a tripod, but the other week LIDL had a special offer on fishing equipment, so I purchased one of their `rod-holders`, an extending tripod with attachments to hold 4 fishing rods. The rod-attachment was removed with a hacksaw and the steel wall bracket supplied in the digital kit bolted to the top of the tripod instead. i now have an extendable, lightweight aluminium tripod (in its own supplied storage bag) for

The Maplins/Lidl kits come with a G clamp for fixing to poles, grab handles etc, I use this to fix to a pole hammered into the ground.

It never gets blown over like tripods I have seen.

I do not use the sucker kit as I feel it could put stresses into the caravan bodywork.
