How to resolve non pressure retention on TireTek gauge

For a number of years I have used a TireTek pressure gauge. I first bought it when I did some off roading and it was very useful as it had a bleed feature so the Pajeros tyre pressures could be dropped when required without having to stick your finger end in the tyre valve. Having no battery it could be relied upon at all times.
Anyway last week I noticed that it would not hold air pressure readings when removed from the valve. So looking on the TireTek website the support section has a video and what to do. You just dismantle the top end parts and blow through and a drop of light oil on the “ plunger” stem. Outcome? All working fine again. So no need to start looking for another gauge.

I never find either a pump or guauge I can trust. I always have both, so I can check and no matter what I buy the difference in readings can be astounding.

I have three gauges in addition to the ones on my Michelin electric inflator, my Reebok Track pump and my foot pump. The standalone gauges are Ring Digital, PCL pencil gauge and Tiretek mechanical gauge. The PCL and Tiretek work every time on all of my car and van valves, whereas the Ring digital can be sensitive. I tend to use the PCL the most but it only goes up to 50psi. OCD or what? The standalone ones are all consistent to each other on readings, but of course with two of them analogue I could be the weak link. What Im really after isn't the last half percent of accuracy but trends for tyre pressure changes, and if pressures are too far out then tried wear becomes an expensive issue. But those associated with inflators are rubbish.

Only yesterday I was looking for a reliable air pressure gauge and recommendations were RING. However I found that the digital ones soon became inaccurate so maybe the Tiretek is the answer? I like the idea that you can deflate if the pressure is higher than it should be.
