We are off to the Loire Valley in August taking the caravan for the first time, does anyone know if there are any decent hypermarkets anywhere near orleans or should we stock up in Auchan in Calais. Can't wait to go.

Thanks

Stock up when you get to Orleans. All French towns seem to have decent hypermarkets near by.

watch out on the way back as they shut on a Sunday, a real menace if you are catching the ferry back that day and don't want to travel across france with half a vineyard in the car

I would always stock up near to your site (unless on the Riviera). You'll find local hypermarket prices are generally less than prices in and around Calais (which has a 'captive market' of British daytrippers to buy goods). We've sometimes found quite marked differences between different locations of the same hypermarket chain - and always the Calais/Boulogne/St Omer prices are higher.
