This is our first caravan….so I need to have a hitch and electric connection installed on my Hyundai Kona…….I have spent 4 hours googling stuff…and quite frankly I haven’t got a clue what I should do…….how much should I be paying for the hitch and electrics ?????

I have been quoted £800 and also been advised to buy the hardware myself and get a mate to install it?

Any advice would be most appreciated l.l..

Get a professional NTTA fitter to fit a towbar and electrics. Witter, Brink etc all have websites that will quote for a selected towbar and towball. Buy a model specific wiring harness much better than generic. Hope your mate is good as some cars need recoding and professional fitters will do this as part of the installation.

Two years ago we had a fixed tow bar fitted on our Jeep with 13 pin electrics and the cost was about £500.

With a Kona in the household, this made me raise my eyebrows. Depending on spec the current range max towing weight range from only 1010kg to 1310 kg...

Basically a "garden rubbish" trailer then?
Certainly not, there are suitable caravans within that weight range. I had a five berth Sprite Musketeer TD at 1300 kg and it had everything we required. There are others avaiable for tge OP to consider with the Kona. Mind as you approach the lower end of its range choice becomes more restricted.

View attachment 7488Adria Altea 432 PX 2009 MTPLM 1100kg with 200kg payload. Same bed, bathroom layout as Sprite Alpine 4 but different dining area. Tow it with Vitara which has 1200kg rating. I wouldn't tow anything heavier from handling point of view. Kona is similar size vehicle.

The stated quote is not unreasonable. Five years ago my VW was £600.
This seems to support the OP’s quote

Witter detachable swan neck circa £880 plus &75 for coding and no price quoted for 13 pin electric.
Bailey D4 nice choice by OP.
