We was wrong, i know , but...

My normal tow car , a Nissan Mistral import blew up two days before a rather important TCC rally.

It was a memorial rally to our dear departed Charman , Danny Rudd.

So we had a towbar and electrics installed on the wifes Peugeot 307SW. The cars MLTPM is only 200 kgs less than the caravan!! The Swift Challenger 550LSE is about 1500 kgs! We stripped the caravan out as much as poss , no wine or beer glasses even.

I tried the outfit up and down our road it went ok.

But , as a towcar , it was brilliant , brakes and handling were ist class. We only did 12 miles and 12 back.I therefore recommnend it!!

Depending on what engine the Peugeot has, the maximum permissible towload could actually have been less than the weight of the empty caravan, in which case you could have lost your insurance coverage for driving an illegal combination.

Gerry, you naughty boy!! (only kidding)

Lutz is right though, should you of had an accident (your fault or not)your insurance company would of run a mile.

It is commendable that you considered the loading and left out as much as you could, which show that you were aware of your plight and was doing whay you could to reduce the risk.

Please don't "recommend it" though as there are enough people who take risks every day.

My brother-in-law, no matter how many times I show him, can't load a van to save his life and always ends up with 20Kgs of hitch weight. We always have to re load for him and he say's everytime that the van tows much better. I've even taken photo's of the inside of the van loaded with the awning on the floor and the other loose bits placed strategically to get 70Kgs of nose weight. (some folks !!??)
