i need everyones help ref towcar.

hi as most of you know we will be changing the car soon from a grand cherokee to a more economical mpv, est car or an cheaper to run 4 x 4. we need your help because we cant find much to tow the van we will be changing to.

we have been on the cuddles sites but it like everything is a no wont tow it or rubbish nose weight, so we are asking for help to find us an mpv or est, prefer diesel with a nose weight of at least 80/85 kg if poss.

the van fully loaded will be 1460 (i think its kg) and we have abpprox £10,000-£11,000 to spend. i know im asking alot but if anybody can find us the right car for the new van its you lot, lol. i dont know if we are reading the cuddles site wrong or what?.

With a 1460kg caravan, it shouldn't be too difficult to get the noseweight down to 75kg by appropriate weight redistribution. Only when you get into the over 1600kg range is 100kg preferable. I wouldn't rate 100kg essential until you get into the real battleship arena of around 2000kg.

thanks lutz, so what sort of cars would you recommend?. we dont want to be running much more than about 88%.

we kno we can have kia sedona, alhambra, sharon we dont know about the galaxy because the nose weight is only 80kg. i dont know what else to suggest, help.

I've had two Mercedes 220CDI Auto V classes that have done very high mileage towing work trailers and two twin axe caravans.

FWD has been no problem and they are quite economic if driven sensibly even as auto's and attaining around 30mpg an long caravan runs. Nose weight is 100kg and they have air self leveling suspension. Based on a van they are not as smooth as some people carriers but have lots of space and good power from the CDI engine. Spares are cheap compared to merc cars as they are based on the vans commercial roots and servicing by Merc specialists is very reasonable. They have air con smart auto box ABS and traction control to.

Jo anne,at that weight a modeo tdci 130 bhp would be ok,Ive got hatchback model,althoough I think estate would be beter,Ive now changed my caravan fully loaded weight 1515 tows ok,just dont ask caravan club,my previous carvan was 1400 kg fully loaded and mondeo towed no problem all over the the place,for that kind of money theres real bargains as new mondeo is due out in may/june

I have a 2001 BMW 530d touring, 195bhp nose weight 90kg towing max 2000kg self levelling suspension etc. I tow a Bailey Senator Indiana @ 1500kgs the car doesn't know its there and still does 26mpg when towing and up to 40 when solo. A great tow car.
