Icelenad

We would like to unsertake a caravanning holiday (3/4 weeks) to Iceland in June 07 - any advice on how to get there and once there where to go and what to do?

Any recommended camp sites?

We took our caravan to Iceland a couple of years ago. Basically, there are two ways of getting there, either you take a ferry to the Shetland Isles first, and then from Lerwick to Seydisfjordur or you go to the north of Denmark and thence to Iceland, in both cases via the Faroe Islands.

We drove once around the island (Seydisfjordur, the port of arrival is right opposite Reykjavik so the round trip acn be done equally well clockwise or anticlockwise.

Campsite are usually in idyllic settings but often rather basically equipped, generally not unlike CL sites in the UK. Electricity is not always available but hot water everywhere, even out of the cold taps.

If you want to know more, try the website of the ferry operator, Smyril Line or write me an email.
