Has anyone used La Tour des Prises at La Couarde sur Mer or La Grainetiere at La Flotte. They are both ASCI sites. Be very interested in feedback.

Hi we have used Tour des Prisse many times and will be there again in a few weeks on our way back from Spain. We love the island but have not bothered to check out any of the other sites.Tour des Prisse is adjacent to the cycle network and you can tour the entire island without the car. The only time we didnt enjoy it was when it got invaded by a Dutch rally otherwise it has been a quiet and friendly place. Access to the pitches can be a bit of a strugle due to the trees.

Just back from 2 weeks at La Granitiere. Excellent for our needs (mid aged couple with a dog) newly refurbed swimming pool, plenty of shelter under the trees but a con against this is sticky sap landing on roof of van and pine cones falling randomly. Those wishing to achieve satellite reception may also struggle to find a gap in the trees. Showers/loos and whole site maintained immaculately clean, loads of hot water always on tap. Location is alongside the main road so some road noise but v well situated for La Flotte (10mins by bike) and St. Martin (15-20mins by bike). Warning - avoid the roads as much as possible and stick to the cycle paths only where you can. On leaving the site go directly across the road (no entry sign) into the outskirts of LF to locate the cycle paths to LF and SM.

Snack bar and shop v good and all types of bike available to hire on site competitively priced with other rental places. Not all pitches are fully serviced and price is same whether electric only or all three services provided.

The 9 hole golf course is worth taking the sticks for, not cheap but beautifully kept and sufficiently challenging. Badly sign posted though so not easy to find. Most beaches are closed for dogs apart from some dune areas to the north of Ars and the beaches at Bois Plage before 1000 and after 1900, unless you're a local of course and then you ignore the regulations.

Being oustide school hols with only a few small children around it was quiet but can imagine in height of season it being considerably noisier. We'd go back at a moments notice and will probably go again next year.

Hi Brian,

We have used this site for many years - yes it does get a few camping tours by the Dutch but we managed OK.

Excellent site for cycling tracks - fishing not far away - wildlife can be seen in the nearby vineyards. The cycle tracks are great no cars!

Agree access to some pitches does require care.

Would recommend this site with it's covered pool.

Regards

Thanks Ron

Have just returned from 3 weeks at Tour des Prises. Really liked it so stayed longer than planned. As you say cycling tracks are really good - unfortunately we did not take the bikes so hired them. Expensive but worth it as we saw areas we would not have seen by car. Also easier to get round the villages. It was getting rather busy when we left and fully booked for high season.

Hope to go again another year but for us worth going in June when not so busy.

Also the bridge toll increased from 15 Euro to 27 euro on 20th June. There were 2 twinaxle units arrive on site the first of which was charged 27 Euro. The second unit which followed him through the toll was charged 45 Euro. If you have a twin axle it may be best not to go over the bridge in convoy!
