Hi Parksy or any other mod) from time to time posts are appearing that look like I have made them (see for example http://www.practicalcaravan.com/newforums/fm_messages.asp?FO=13&FM=443199). Most/all other forums I have ever belonged to only allow one user to use a given username, so could you tell me what is going on?

William, on this antiquated forum there is no limit of the amount of members who could use the name of "William" or any other name for that matter. Nor is there any way for the moderators to control this.

It has caused quite a bit of confusion in the past and will no doubt continue to do so. One way around it is to modify your member name in some way. Due to there being several Roberts on here in the past that's what I ended up doing. Far from ideal I know.

Hi William

As Rob T and Dustydog have said, unfortunately there is no mechanism to prevent more than one member having the same username.

The moderators have no control over the log in procedure so the best way round the problem is to add something to your username like Rob (T) or change to something unique like Alan (Dustydog)

Just add a post into the 'Our Website' section when you've done this so that everyone will know who you are.

William

That's why I too changed my idendity.

Cheers

Dustydog
I'd heard that a posse of jealous husbands in the Swindon / Cirencester area caused the change :0)
