Hi all
I have just spoken to C&CC and unless you have the documents firmly in your hand from Cris stating that your are the new registered owners DONT say you are in your policy(even if you have Cris/Vin numbers), as it would NULL & VOID it, as the guy said if that caravan was to be stolen from us and it wasnt Cris registered in OUR name and we claimed it was at that time, the insurance would not pay out, and we could find ourselves in a hell of a trouble!!
However on a happier note, having redone, my policy quote on line with them, removing the Cris number etc until i get it actually documented, changed nothing regarding the premium, I had visions of it shooting in the air, but it has in fact remained the very same.

I have also managed to get another few quotes from brokers regarding this Guaranteed Value that the C&CC offer and they are all more expensive..

hope this helps other too Lollie xx

meant to say even if you know they are in the post, and you have phoned details into HPI, wait till you have documents in your hand!! You need your CV6 anyway, and always keep your receipts

Hi

Just to add confusion I have just bought my policy at C&CC and the guy that I spoke to this time took the Cris/vin number even though i mentioned previous conversation with his college about not doing until Cris doc were in my hand, and he said what would be the point in that as I would just need to readjust the policy probably within the week. So it is now insured with Cris/Vin number heaven forbid anything happens and they wanted to void this but he was quiet insistent, this process really does need clarification
I am going to now phone HPI just to see to things at there end but im quiet sure they cant do anything without paperwork..

lollie

…….just to add.
I would not take my caravan abroad without taking the CRIS document showing my caravan was registered in my name.
You may be asked for documents for your caravan when abroad, even though UK law does not require you to have any!
If you can provide the CRIS document you are unlikely get any bother.

I dont have cris membership, but had no problems getting caravan insurance with the C&C.My insurance documents contain my chassis number, which is all you need to verify the identity of a caravan, and would also be the Only sure was the police could identify a stolen vehicle for sure.
I am not against system like cris but, find it strange why they actually exist in the first place,as for me a legal department like the DVLC should set up a proper licensing system for caravans and not a private enterprise regardless of good intension's all it does is bring confusion to the whole licensing system or lack of it or any intension's for the DVLA to set one up,as it has no legal status so regarding Gaffer bills statement about using his cris on the continent as prove of ownership, you are relying on the police abroad accepting a non legal verification as proof of ownership!Surely your insurance documents would be more acceptable,as your chassis number should be on there, unless insurances companies are replacing that with the cris number! which in itself would be stupid,as the chasis numbers is how you identify thing are straight not the reg number or for caravans cris number.

Jonny….. I did not say the CRIS registration document proved ownership and note that you advocate a more formally run UK national system of caravan registration.

I point out that such a formal system is exactly what most Western European Countries already have.
There a caravan is a vehicle in its own right and has a unique registration plate that differs from the towing vehicle.
It also has its own registration documents.

Therefore when a UK registered outfit is travelling in such a country and the driver is asked to produce his documents the enforcement officer will be expecting to see paperwork for the caravan (unless he is exceptionally well informed on UK law)

Producing your CRIS document that shows a matching name and address to your other documents and shows a document registration number that matches your caravan chassis number will give you a much better chance of being waved on your way.
