hi all

I agree with you gary, I can't stand this its my bit of field keep off attitude because it spoils the neibourly atmosphere

yes we all like a bit of space but why do some insist on a corral of wind breaks to fence themselves in and then park thier car in the next pitch.

to be honest I have never been bothered about someone cutting across the corner of our pitch to get to the tap or ehu but I know some do, the simple answer is don't pitch up near the ehu, water point, toilets, dog walk,or accsess gates.

Perfect windbreak example on our last trip to Keswick C&CC, where the usual rules of setting up on the hard standing pitches are car on the grass alongside the hard standing, caravan then awning, in that order.

Our neighbours, who turned out to be a really lovely family, had a windbreak alongside their awning and their car parked alongside our van, meaning that we had to park on the opposite side, eating into our other neighbours parking space.

It was only after we got set up that we realised the problem had been caused further along the row by someone fencing off the entire area in between themselves and neighbouring van with massive windbreaks.

We mentioned this in passing to the warden in case we got a complaint about where we parked and the wardens attitude was "that's a bit selfish isn't it ?" and cycled on past.

Sorry but if you have your dog or dogs on a short chain on your pitch and someone comes along with a fido on an extended flexi lead and an incident occurs which causes injury to one or all of the dogs, whose fault is it? and who should pay the vet/s bill?

Is a Fido a new kennel club breed?

Dogs are dogs, and a dog approaching anothers space or a young child or todlers getting into the best behaved dogs space is not always a good mix.

I feel that we should respect caravanner/campers space and there children and pets. But I don't own the pitch and can't get upset about a foot in my space. But using the pitch I'm renting as a main thorofare is another thing.

Well said Sadie.

Lisa
i agree with u shady, i havent a problem with people walking onto our pitch if it is an honest mistake because they are lost or not sure where they are going, but blatant disregard for any one else really takes the biscuit.....they would soon have something to say if they got bit by one of the dogs????

I remember one of the first times we used a 'super pitch' with its own water, waste and electic points, having paid a much higher pitch fee than normal, being gob-smacked when this bloke from a standard pitch strolled over and filled his aqua-roll at OUR water point.

Hi Craig

Your reply is tucked up above, behind the comments.

We usually get:

'Is that a pit bull?'

'Is that a real Staffy?, my mate's is bigger than that'

'Shouldn't that dog be muzzled?'

'Is it true what they say about them?'

However, talking about negative comments, this was the best but I'll make an exception as I think the girl who made the comments had some serious issues and needed to see a psychologist (she was aged about nine).

I was speaking with the girl's mother (gypsy family).

Girl asks: 'Shouldn't that dog be muzzled?'

Me: 'No, it's not one of the breeds on the Dangerous Dogs Act'

She replies in a strong Irish accent:

'I hate them dogs, they bite people, they are nasty, nasty dogs. If that was my dog, I'd take a big stick to it and beat it and get two bricks and smash it on the head till it was dead'.

For the first time in my life, I was speechless! LOL!!

Lisa
lol there is no answer to that sort of comment is there?

I must be the odd one out here, I absolutely hate people walking through my pitch, i believe that its like walking through someones garden, if i get lots of it i put the wind breaks up to stop it. bah humbug.

The reason is simple, i have various little dinks on my van, and i caused exactly none of them, they have been caused by kids, balls and people taking short cuts, i have returned to my van on a few occasions to see more little dinks than before i left, i know every inch of my van.

i remember once a guy climbed over a metal wire fence behind my van using my satellite dish to steady himself, he knocked my signal out and cut between my car and my van, i had a word and it did not happen again.

wind breaks where appropriate make my holiday more relaxing, in my quest to keep my van nice and new looking it saves me twitching and staring at everyone who comes too close to it.

LMAO, i am such an old misery guts, but seriously though:

"keep the hell off my pitch!"

Craig, I was away a couple of months ago with just one dog. (Tenting, but don't tell anyone).

There was a really strange bloke on the site and he had a collie (I do like collies) but it was mainly off the lead roaming all over and it actually did a wee up my tent. Grr.

Anyway, the owner didn't know I was in my tent on one occasion and I heard him scream at his dog (when he and his dog were on their way back from walking through the open fields) and were on the site:

'You f****** little b******, I walk you through the fields and you come back and **** there'. He then thumped his dog several times.

What a moron.

I put my little Gaylord on his chain on 'pitch bouncer duty' and from that time onwards, his dog was on its lead everytime he passed my tent.

In all our years of caravanning we've never had dinks or marks in our caravans from people passing, the odd ball and flying toy has come are way. But nothing that has caused damage and we soon have a word with uncaring caravanners or their children.

What on earth have people been doing when walking past you vans Mike?

I have no problem with people giving people their own space, it's the people who seem to think that they have bought the pitch out to the site road ways that rile me.

Truth be told Sadie, i think its things like frisbees, even tennis balls, try slinging either one at your van and see the dent it causes.

as we have a young child we tend to frequent the more commercial haven style sites, they provide us with the kiddy entertainment that the boy loves, its classic to see uncontrolled kids running riot on these type of sites though as lots of them are there from saving tokens from the bloody sun

Sorry Mike, but you no more own the pitch than a Hotel room or the bed you use in abed and breakfast. People should though respect your space and property.

Sorry Sadie, i agree legally that it may be the case that i dont own it, but i still feel like its mine for the duration, if eveyone felt like this then perhaps more people would show respect for other people pitches.

I agree with your comment about respect and property whole heartidly though. folk are too slack with their morals and standards these days.

I definetley agree with you Mike about the haven, parkdean etc holiday site although to their credit they do usally provide good facillites.

I think the main thread of this topic boils down to good manners. In March I stayed on a site at Grantown and between pitches there were wooden trestles. The chap in the van next to me had 4 kids bikes and wanted to paddolock them to it for safety (In Grantown on Spey !!) at least he had the manners to come and ask if he could put 2 round my side which whilst not great when packing up early the next morning, you don't feel so aggrieved.
