Increase suspension

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can help. My husband seems to think that there is something available that you can add to your suspension to lift it at the back. We have a renault laguna estate 1.9 2005 and the back end is quite low.

Any ideas.

You need a pair of MAD auxiliary springs.

I`ve used these in the past on Peugeots and are brilliant when towing (TBH it made the car less `wallowy` when solo as well).

Don`t bother with the rubber `donuts` which fit in the coils.

You can find MAD info on line and they are easy to fit.

Thanks for that information.

Hello Jane,

In my experience I have noticed that Renault cars often have quite soft springing, so some assistance may be useful,

BUT you should also check that you are not overloading the rear suspension.

Don't forget that the nose load of the caravan must fall within the limits specified by the manufacturer, and because the towbar is bolted to the floor of the boot, the nose load forms part of the boot capacity and must be reduced by the nose load of the caravan. Check with your supplier for clarification.

Hi Jane ,

I had the same problem with my laguna 2 , soft at the back , so i had a pair of the progressive springs from " mad suspension" fitted a few weeks back... what a difference they make, i thoroughly recommend them for your lag 2.

Hi,

I fitted my towbar to my lag 2 , you will find it does not bolt to the floor of the boot, it bolts to the mainframe chassis (4 bolts and to back end of chassis ( 4 bolts).

Hope this helps .... Harry

Hello Harry,

I bow to your greater knowledge on the Laguna.

However you should still check out the load limits.

Bear in mind that stiffening up the rear suspension while maintaining the same spring rates at the front will tend to make the car oversteer more easily, especially when not towing.

MAD also do air bags that fit in the rear springs. The big benifit of these is that you only pump them up when the van is on the back and the car drives as normal.

Hi John,

Had the technical details from renault before i bought the van ... took me a while to figure it all out as i am very new to caravanning (folding camper beforehand). All worked out ok. Mind you only been out 6 times pulling the van . Cannt fault the car in any way (3ltr V6)estate.
