Indicator on caravan not working; help please!

Hi! I need some help ideas with an electrical problem on my caravan.

One of the indicators is not working. When I signal in the car I get the audible signal from the tow bar electrics, but the indicator on the van does not work.

I have checked and replaced the bulb. All other lights on the cluster work.

If I remove the bulb then the audible signal from the tow bar electrics stops. I am correct in thinking that this means that's the circuitry is all working?

I have also cleaned and checked the cable pug and socket and all appears to be good.

Has anyone got any advice?

Just out of a matter of interest have you tried the caravan light cluster on the other side,this may prove a point,but as you know it will be different set up,also have you taken apart and looked at the black plug that goes into the back of the car,also the plug on the car it self,
 
Right then; Have checked both the socket and plug on car and caravan. As far as I can tell the yellow wire is correctly wired and secure. Still no joy. Any thoughts? (car problem or caravan problem?)

Stephen, with a multimeter set to 20v DC red lead to pin 1, black lead to pin 3(on the car socket) try the indicator, if you get a reading, the car electrics are fine.

Same for the other indicator, Red to pin 4 black to pin 3, try the indicator.

If all ok, next is the van wiring, set multimeter to continuity, red to pin 1, black to 3 should get a buzz(if your multimeter has a buzzer), same with pins 4 and 3

You should now know what is faulty and can progress with a fix.
 
Right the easiest way to find out if its the car/caravan,Try to hitch up with another caravan or trailer,and as for another black plug they are easy to put on as long as you take your time and for the novice the plug is numbered for the colours and if you buy one in a packet rather than a loose,All details are on the back and they are only a couple of quid,
 
Tried testing the car socket all appears to be ok. Thanks again for that tip. Can't check the van until tomorrow evening as it is in storage. Just a bit worried in case it is the van, because not sure about exactly what could be wrong. If it is the van does anyone have any ideas about the sort of things it could be?
 
Stephen, it is going to be either a bad connection at the plug, which may just need the pins opening up a bit with a small flat bladed screwdriver, or a bad connection at the light cluster, or a fuse in the van , normally under one of the seats.
 
you might find that the audible warning device has a problem on the car, sometimes enough voltage gets through to fool the volt meter or testing devices but not enough current to light the bulbs. it may sound wacky but try bypassing the buzzer on the car, you never know it might be that.it happened to me a couple of years ago, best of luck
