Hi there,

We are making possibly two visits this season to scotland, we are a family of 2 adults and 2 kids aged:7, we don't like big noisy lively sites we prefer quieter sites where our children can play nicely without problems from roudy kids and we can relax in the surroundings, we also like to visit places, the wife particularly enjoys shopping!!

The sites that i'd like general advice and comments about are as follows : Edinburgh CC, Yellowcraig CC, Maragowan CC, Blair Drummond and Balbirnie Park CC.

Any general advice much appreciated and to the travel to them we will be heading North into Scotland via the A1 from Newcastle upon Tyne.

Many Thanks

Andrew.

hi Andrew,

Maragowan is a lovely site but with only a small play park for kids and the river running along side not much for the kids to do, if your wife is looking for shopping i wouldnt recomend it either as all shopping areas is a good drive away Oban hr North, Perth about the same time. Never been to Blair Drummond site but again sits in the middle of no where with a good drive to get to Stirling and Perth, you can shop in Calander but these are manley tourist shops (Edinburgh wooling mills etc) never been to any of the other sites but was booked up to go to Balbirnie and was told it was in among trees and gets quite damp was recomended to try somewhere else. hope this helps and you get some more helpfull tips.

enjoy Scotland its got some great views.

Hi there

This is not a CC site but is one of my favourites in Scotland - Lomond Woods at Balloch. It's a lovely quiet site with the large visitor centre just outside the site. The visitor centre has a Jenners store and other shops, cafes, a restaurant and a Sea Life centre along with other things for children, boat trips, bike hire, playground etc. A bit further through the town (walking distance) is the Balloch country park with lovely walks up to the castle and fantastic views over Loch Lomond.

Forgot to say that there is a train direct from Balloch into Glasgow for a great days shopping!!

Andrew,

Yellowcraig is a wonderful site for children.5min walk to miles of sandy beach.I believe there is also an adventure play area now across the road from the site.Edinburgh is the nearest big city, but North Berwick is a pleasant enough small town .Loads to do all around ,so no excuse for being bored. On site there is a small play area where the children tend to congregate and the place is hoaching with rabbits......the site itself is sandy soil so drains very quickly if the weather is wet.

Hope this helps you.

Andrew,

I see no-one has mentioned Edinburgh CC site.We haven't stopped on the site but went along to see it shortly after the Club did all the refurbishments.

It is the usual high standard which you would expect and also has 24 hour security. Its location is in an area which is rather down at heel and could put you off.I think you can get buses outside the gate into the city centre.

Yellowcraig would definitely be the winner here.
