Just bought our first caravan which we are very excited about, it's the new special edition Safari Abbey 620 twin axle.

After contacting many insurance companys Sheild seem's to be the cheepest for us as it going into a gold security centre, and to be honist I am losing the will to live if I have to speak to anyone else and answer the same questions over and over again.

My questions are:-

firstly are they ok? and does anyone have any positive/negative feed back they can offer regarding this insurance company.

stuart, i wouldnt go with anybody but caravan club. you do pay for what you get. they say it doesnt matter where you keep it as you will be touring in it but as long as you have got two security devices on it they are happy with it.

i phoned everyone when we got our 1st van but now i wouldnt go with anyone else.

Hi, We too have just bought our 1st caravan & I am going to insure it with insuremycaravan.co.uk. I have found them the cheapest & so easy to do as it is all online. Give them a try!

I have no idea of the price you paid for the caravan but if it is a special edition etc, then I am sure it was not cheap. Therefore you may be wiser to look for a Company that will give you the best value for your money, not necessarily the cheapest quote. Both main Clubs are good, if you are over 50 then Saga also offer good value. Members of this Forum also speak highly of NFU. The choice is up to you.

Unfortunately the quality of an insurance policy is not based on how cheap it is or how easy it is to get. The quality is based purely on the effectiveness of it's claims service. I have been with the Caravan Club underwriters for many years and know from colleagues experience that thye CC has a first class claims service but I am sure it is not the cheapest policy available.

Premiums are always decided by the claims history. If a premium is cheap it probably has a low claims history which very often means that it has many exclusions.

A friend of mine was 'over the moon' when he found an insurance for his car (same as mine) which was
