hi new to caravaning would i have to inform my insurance company when it comes to towing my caravan

Don't forget that the van is only insured when on the back of the car and then only for third party claims. If you haven't insured your van yet both clubs offer excellent cover and so does NFU Mutual. You need to check what security each needs as they vary. Also watch for those companies that charge monthly- one of them means four weekly and so the annual premium is 13 times the "monthly".
