Intermittent Water Pump

Hi, I have a 1992 Bucanneer Caravel. I recently had to replace a broken submersible water pump but I seem to have a dodgy connection when its attached to the van. It only works intermittently and sometimes works if you wiggle it a little.

Any help or advice to solve this annoying issue would be appreciated.

Check the flex in the plug that goes into the side of the van. Mine fatigued and was intermittent before it went totally dis.

Worth a look?

i had this problem one time and it was a part broken wire on the bend inside the tube.lost about three inch of wire after refitting but it was fine after.clean 2 contacts inside the socket fitting first and on the pump itself.

Hi Happytow,

The brass electrical connections where the pump plugs into the caravan do become quite corroded over time. a quick clean with some fine sand paper or wire wool, can make a great difference.

Also some connectors use a split brass pin. Levering the two halves apart slightly with a small screw driver will make a better contact when the plug is pushed home.

Other than that, corroded wires as suggested by Matty and Michael are strong contenders.
