Hi ally,

we are also going to Ireland for 4 to 5 weeks in July/August and the sites we will probablly do are Hidden Valley Holiday Park in County Wicklow, Apple Camping & Caravan Park Cahir, Flemings White Bridge near Killarney and still looking for one round Galway or Mayo region.

Have not been to any of these as this will be our first trip to Ireland but have chosen by reading reviews and web sites etc. It would be nice if anyone has been to any of these sites to give their opinions.

Regards

John

Hi John may i suggest a small town about 25 miles north of Galway called Cong it's Where the classic John Wayne film the quiet man was made, its well worth checking out the place, We visited there about 12 years ago and stayed on a very good site on the edge of the town. Sorry can't remember the name of the site but should be easy to look up. The town is situated where loch corrib meets loch mask and Its a real interesting place.

Thats the very site Brenda it looks even better than when we stayed there, Its a real must see place when visiting the west of Ireland. Weve been all over southern Ireland and its the nicest place weve been.

Hi Cheshirecat,

Can I ask you which sites you have stayed at in southern ireland. Have you stayed at any of the sites in my previous post?

What I'm looking for is a nice site with a reasonable amount of room, electric hook up and clean toilet and showers. I notice that some sites only have 6amp electrics. Being a relative newcomer to caravanning, started last year, would this affect me as most of the sites in the uk are 10amp?

we are both retired, childrens play area's etc are not top of our list but a nice friendly site with a pub within staggering distance would be a bonus especially if it had the music.

Regards

John

Hi John sorry but i cant realy help you with the above sites, When i said weve stayed all over Ireland apart from what is now called the quiet man site we mainly stayed in cottages and guest houses and even a boat on the shannon, Thats before we became caravaners, when we stayed at cong we camped in a family tent, stayed 10 nights and used it as a base to tour the west coast, sorry i could'nt be more helpful.

Hi,

We went to Cork last September and stayed at Blarney Castle caravan site. Very pleasant. Only one problem

IT'S VERY EXPENSIVE IN IRELAND.

Hi, we have stayed at Hidden Valley in Wicklow, had great time they where doing alot of improvements that was 2 years ago, so should be even better now. We will go back but are waiting for Euro rate to improve. Redcross village is another good site its a very large site with plenty for kids to do. With the prices in the south being so high you would be better to travel up North to the Mourne Mountains (we live here) beautiful countryside and plenty of sites near beaches.

I agree with Karen, you would definately notice a big difference in the price if you come to Northern Ireland. We are lovely people up here and there are some great sites too, although we are only returning to touring I have heard of many good sites across Northern Ireland and I know you would certainly enjoy the hospitality of us up here. Enjoy wherever you go in Ireland North or South

Hi Olive I started this debate and here I am, we did the North last year, excellent from Downpatrick, Antrim, Limavady, Enniskillen and back to Portavogie etc, i agree with your comments, the Scots -Ulster trail was great
