Highlander, why would you be bothered about what van you have or what car? If your out there with your family enjoying yourselves, stuff what anyone else thinks!

But remember that noise carries and you should not disturb others in the late evening and most sites have places for kids to play!

Remember as a touring caravanning Scot you have a Golden opportunity to be an ambassador for Scots and show that Scots can be pleasant and wanted, caring, thoughtfull, considerate, honest, prudent, and well mannered and tempered unlike the useless lying W_____ at number 10 ;)

You ain't seen nothing yet mate!

Wait until the warm weather comes and more families go away in their caravans!

We get rants about kids with bikes, scooters, balls, drunken parents, chavs, caravanners who cut across the pitches of others and - Don't even mention dogs!

If you think that you have been badly treated on other forums it might be better to sort it out with them, your post gave a strong impression that you meant that members of this forum are the 'snobbish element' that you mentioned.

No matter, nobody can do much about someone's perceptions of them gained via the internet.

As I mentioned, many of us use forums to have a moan and there are regular kidz 'n' dogz rants which we try to keep a bit of a lid on because people easily lose their sense of self awareness and perspective on internet forums and write things that would never be said face to face.

Magazines are something else, both club magazines letter pages are a constant source of amusement for me, I wish that they could all be made into a book.

Caravan magazine letters are reasonably 'normal' but the clubs - many of them turn whinging about what others do into an art form!

All part of lifes rich tapestry.

euro,

i dont intend to be an abassador for scotland to show the above, every country in the world outside engerland already know those attributes. thats why when abroad, locals ask where are you from, we say scotland and they give the thumbs up and say "gid stuff, thot ye were engerlish".

its you guys who need to work on yer identity, no us. :)

I would not state there is any 'snobbishness' amongst caravanners, or even motorhomers for that matter excepting of course the 'wolly' with the latest Concord motorhome at

You sure are deluded MacH :) If the Scots had that good a presence the foreign locals wouldny be asking where your from and I've never met a foreigner yet who thought a Jock's accent was English ;)

no buddy, i aint deluded. this comes from personal experience, even though we know the difference of each others twang, when abroad the locals just accustom it to engerlish. couldnt count on my two hands the amount of time that they have patted me on the back or ordered a drink when they realised i was from scotland. always ended with them giving the thumbs down and saying " argh, engerland, no good". certainly made my day each time.

The nasty sniping comments about nationality is one thing that we don't need on this forum MacHighlander.

It's schoolyard stuff which has no place on this forum.

I suggest that those concerned take a look at forum etiquette where Rule 1 states:

You may not transmit any material that is abusive

threatening, obscene, or sexually explicit.

Do you not remember Joking and Humour Parksy ;)

One minute Jock MacHighlander is moaning about caravanner snobbery and elitism.

Then with a little dig in the ribs he's then all elitist superior Scotland the Brave whose supposed to be worried that caravanning may be the wrong social scene for his sheltered ways;)

I think somebody is pulling yours and others strings Parksy :)

and it's not me!

I remarked once about the classless cameraderie among our club members. We had a members from a multi-millionaire property developer, to a member who was a dustman, and the millionaire said, "When we're emptying our pots down this hole, we're all exactly the same" That was twenty plus years ago, and I'm still a member of that club (but no longer a dustman!)

Snobbery only exists if you let it.

Joking and humour is one thing Euro

I've seen where this edgy snipey stuff invariably leads to and not only on this forum.

I haven't got any strings to pull btw Euro,it would be just as easy for me to hit the delete button and not say a word either at the time or later by way of explanation.

I try to treat forum members decently as adults and when they start to stray towards the bounds of what is considered acceptable by the forum owners who have written the rules I do my best to let the members concerned see that they are straying close to the edge.

Of course those affected will sometimes(!) disagree with me but at least I give them the chance to have their say and I'm prepared to justify my actions in public on the forum.

You obviously can't or won't see the problem Mac highlander.

Maybe you ought to have a read of your Burns poem that you have quoted on this forum.

You're absolutely correct in the statement that it 'ain't leading nowhere' anyway.

Any more of it and it will go whichever side of the fence it comes from.

Ive noticed on site and i may have mentioned this before, peoples desire not to comunicate.Either a simple hello or a bit of a chat. But maybe people come on holiday to get away from the strain of work and keep themselves to themselves or spend valuble time with their family they rarely see.

An old friend of mine who,d caravanned for years told me "no matter what van you have,or age,You,ll have the same holiday as the guy next to you in a brand new van.Its a means of sleeping."

He was right,we started with a 94 abbey 5 berth(fit together top bunk)which admittedly was tidy.A 93 citroen 1.9td which was well past its best engine wise. The outfit went abroad 4 times, toured all of the UK.Broke down once with a split hose on site, easily fixed with the aid of B&Q up the road, happy days.

In all though the deal on a new van with the trade in was to good to refuse.Like everythink its what you make it.

If only the steam driven Practical Caravan forum allowed such things as lights to come on! Perhaps the odd Miner's lamp (if PC had bought the matches), and a canary in a cage, singing if there was another right click of the mouse - but really, lights, bells and whistles - it would take Lord B's second home allowance to make that happen!

MacHighlander, if you're worried about people not speaking do the same as I do.

When walking to the shower block or wherever and I pass anyone I look at them to make eye contact. If they do I say 'good morning', good evening, nice weather or whatever.

If they look the other way or keep their eyes to the ground I mutter 'miserable b*****d' under my breath.

Try it, it's surprising how much better you'll feel.

The stupid thing is though Val they have a more modern website at Caravan Sitefinder but hardly anyone uses it. You would think in this day and age if their IT bods had anything about them they could transfer this site with its database over to that one.
