~Same as my late cousin Joby, a multi millionnaire, yet would not turn his nose up at a homeless person, far from it, sponsored me many a time for a few thousand when I was doing things to raise money for the homeless.

When he died, I was offered one of his Lexus's but turned it down.

Have to laugh, my mum and aunt often stay in Mayfair in one of the properties.

You usually find it's those with nowt who act like they have it all. LOL!

Strange World

Our Surrey house has a name, if I give my address just using "XXXXXXX" no one bats an eye, use the correct "XXXXXXX Farm" you'd be surprised how peoples attitudes change.

hi all

when I worked in the warehouse before retiring this guy in his late thirties started a job as a order picker, every day he came to work in a suit and tie carrying a briefcase, before entering the warehouse his suit and tie went into the boot of his merc and out came a old pr of boots and a boiler suit, the brifecase had his sandwiches in.

after about 3 weeks of this and being a nosy b****R by nature I asked him what was going on he said "he used to be a manager in a bank but was made redundant this job was the only one he could get to put him on" fair enough I said "but why the suit" well he explained "one does not want the neibours to know one does a manual job now does one"

now that what I call true snobbery??

MacHighlander my Lad

What is that beats in tha wee sleekit cowering timorous chestie?

My first caravan was a 1974 Ski 4 berth as basic as they come. It did have a fridge and a spare wheel. We toured all over the UK and had a great time.

We even went to the land of my ancestors, some place up north to see where the great grandads roamed. Guess where? Rannoch moor and Blair Atholl. There's even a family museum at Bruar Falls. Seems in these parts my car is safe even sporting my England flags!

SWMBO was brought up in a small council house in Birmingham, her dad was a dustman. So what. Like Joby we aspired to a massive house which we named "Schiehallion". I've downsized now but on every site I've stayed I've met people from all walks of life , old and new rigs, and never once, not once have I come across the snobbery things you IMO most unfairly state exist.

Mac H , a while ago you thought about selling your fireblade. I and many others helped you decide to keep it! And you think we are snobs??

Have a nice day.

Cheers

As a South African, first tiem i have been told I am too lordy. Don't know whether to take that as a compliment or an insult. BTW we have a very large twin axle that we purposedly park next to little caravans to make them feel inferior. We then go hide our 1997 4 x 4 so people cannot see how poor we really are and that we are just pretending to be rich!

Never mind Dustydog, a large windfall like that one could bring it's own problems.

You would be scared in case somebody kidnapped the dogs or something but it's nice that you would have thought of us.

The quirkyness is part of this forum's charm anyway.

Having read this thread, how wrong was I that caravanning was a classless society.

I've waded throught chicken sheds in ankle deep crap to fix them so that you lot get a chicken dinner. I've also tested and developed cars for the wealthy.

But most of all I am a person.

It doesn't matter a hoot what people have or don't have materialistically.

There are a lot of "yam yams" driving their "blinged up chealsea tractors" flashing their plastic cards to splash out on showmanship.

Yet on a caravan site they can get just as mucky as me as we all walk the same turf and share the same shower block.

When I had to liquidate my engineering business and go to work in a factory the key question in my interview was, how do I feel about having to work in a factory shop floor, after being MD of my own company.

My answer was, that was were I started , on the shop floor. So working machines is no stranger to me. I didn't start life with a management degree.

Got the job and within 4 years I ended up doing both shift supervision and process technician roles.

After that I went on to become a poultry shed builder and repairer trudging round in poo.

Still all that gives me the ultimate power. To pay my bills in good old cash. The only thing I use a credit card for is to scrape the ice off the windscreen.
