Is porch awning suitable??

Would appreciate comments/advice from anyone who has a porch awning.

I am considering buying one of the easy erect type for short breaks rather than erect the full awning. However the location of door and windows on the side of the van means that between the door and the foremost side window there is a space of only one foot approx. To be placed against the wall of the van the edge of the awning would therefore be no further than a foot away from the door of the van, the other end is fine. Can anyone see problems with this, is it to close for easy access etc.

Thanks

Robert

From your description I can see no problems. The most important thing to remember is the total "straight length" of your awning rail ie before it starts to curve.

I have just recently purchased one for the same reasons as yourself, found it very simple and practical.

Ultima 390 but also smaller ones availiable from www.awnings.co.uk, great site excellent service.

Les,

Thanks for that. The straight length of the awning rail is the reason that the end of the porch would need to go between that window and the door, if I were to take the end of awning past the window then that is where the rail starts to curve.

Thanks again.

Rob, I don't have any experience of the easy errect awnings but i bought an Isabella porch awning off ebay that was only used once for less than half price two years ago. This has been used in all kinds of weather and has been a superb buy. Once you get use to putting it up and taking it down it wont take that long and will last you for years. Its a good saying most of the time,"You only get what you pay for" and if you can get it half price, go for it!!!!!!!

Rob as the previous contributers have stated there should be no problem with your awning being close to the door. On an average size porch awning it would leave a reasonable floor area for you to store your wet clothing/shoes or any other equipment without fouling the access to the caravan door. I have recently purchased a conventional porch awning and have the same clearance as you have and there is no problem at all. Go for it and enjoy the benefit of not having to carry and erect a full size awning - although we have not long had ours it is worth it weight in gold.

Hi Colin, did you see my post regarding porch awnings, we have trouble finding one, because of our low awning rail, we like the look of the quick erecting ones, but apparently we cannot find a supplier or manufacturer that makes them for our van.

Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated if you hear of anybody could you let me know. Liz

O Colin, Van is in somerset, cannot remember measurements.

but caravans is a Lunar Clubman 510/4, Year 1992, Boat shape roof, hence low awning rail. If you would not mind asking for me I would be extremely grateful. Many thanks Liz.
