It's because some people are tall and some short, so a wee short woman can reach the button on tailgate to close it. Simples!
Not a given, as BG have been giving half price electric between certain hours on a Sunday, and during the Olympics, or was it the Euros. So that saving wasn't available to us prior to BG introducing it. The saving obtained by switching stuff off during anticipated peak times was not very much as we don't tend to run with much electric if we can avoid it. Cooking is via gas, a decision we made when the kitchen was replaced three years ago.
My Foresters had a tailgate which had height setting. But even fully open it was still too low for my 6ft 4 inches, but my wife at 5ft 2in had no issues. Being made in Japan clearly affected the designers decision.
When i buy a car, after deal is done i ask for the handbook to take away with me , then go on arranged day to collect car. Gives me plenty of time to read up on all the gizmos .
Can’t ever recall if my wife has ever read a handbook. Unlike Billy I don’t read it before I collect a car. If I’d done that with hire cars I would have needed an extra 24 hours hire. But after collecting a new car for us I do sit down and read it. Then probably again a few weeks later and it’s surprising the extra information that you gain.
My last 4 cars have had pretty much the same controls.

One of the issues on modern cars is the sheer number of 'elf & safety warnings that it can be difficult to see the real meat of the manual - not helped by including equipment not necessarily fitted to the car/caravan concerned - I certainly can't remember how everything works on my car, 9 years on after reading the handbook thoroughly when new.
Had a learning experience only yesterday, 9 years into having the wife's Golf, its auto headlight dipping.
It has always been a love hate relationship, worked so well at times not at all at others.
Research has highlighted it is not active below 37 mph (60 kph), and that's why its not liked. I had not twigged why it never seemed to work at all sometimes. Trundling down our country lanes where only the mentally challenged tank along at speed, you can't see well in the dipped default state, an imortant time when good headlights are very useful. So have to come out of it and go into "manual".
Does not appear one of the German's better decisions, or should that be "brighter ideas"?

For the Touareg it's just Setup/System/Time and untick Daylight Saving - it did surprise me that with all the high tech it gets that it doesn't change automatically

Question, most cars are keyless entry/start. What would happen if I started the car, and throw key fob out window. Would the car continue driving with dash warnings on or stop?
Most (maybe all) keyless cars will continue running once started even if the key is no longer present - as one or two owners have found to their cost.
On the Jeep I think it does it automatically?
It will keep running until the vehicle is switched off so if stealing easier to hijack the vehicle. With our car you cannot lock the car with the keys inside.

On a car I had for 4 years the clock was constantly either 1 hour and 15 minutes fast or just 15 mins fast depending on the time of year. Never bothered to change it. It was only maths.

To add to the wonder of all things techno, at 06:50 this morning (Saturday) my wife's car was hit by a driver who hadn't realised how icy it was.
We were already up, and heard the bang, and nobody injured, so all good.
Swapped details etc, and by 07:50 the insurance company had booked the car into a garage for review, arranged a hire car, spoken with the other insurance company and acknowledged the photographs of the damage.
Also, a solicitor phoned at 08:45 but wasn't needed.
We were astonished how efficient the process was.

I decided to watch Wales v South Africa rugby with commentary in Welsh and no English sub titles. So I switched tv to mute and set Alexa speaker to BBC Radio Wales commentary but it wouldn’t synch with the tv and the internet commentary quite a way behind. So then used something called a radio and the synchronisation was pretty well spot on. Well at least good enough for a sports match. Saved a payment to TNT which given the result was a good financial outcome. ☹️
