Item you couldn't do without

You pitch up for a weeks holiday and find that the most important item (accessory or fixture) has been left at home or broken and you can't replace/repair it for seven days.

What would it be?

It could be the toilet (LOL)

The lock on the door

Damaged awning poles

The tv

And so on.

Please don't say the electricity, gas or battery as that could affect many items.

For me I'd probably have to say I'd miss the awning the most because it would then mean the dogs would have to be inside the van with us and that's a big no no.

The satellite dish. I know, I know, lots will say they're glad to be without TV while away, but my wife won't do without it and what's the use of the satellite receiver and TV (both of which were in the car) when you've forgotten the dish?

We went away once and left the bed Quilts at home. First night froze next day just had to get replacment.
Oh, that was a disaster. LOL!

But, under my rules above, you would have had to improvise for seven days.

Lisa ,

I'm tempted to offer dog food.

under the rules they'd have to eat chicken fillets for a week!!!

Mitigation is that they have a certain type of food for dietry / health reasons , and often not readily available at small local pet supplies , so we'd have to revert to them eating parboiled chicken.

Does this count??????

failing that one of the steadies on the van

Hi Roger

That's fine, I'll grant that one for the doggies.

However, you could upgrade to salmon (good source of calcium and phosphorous) or some lean rump steaks (good source of protein and vitamins), should your wallet be big enough. LOL!

Sorry Rod One, I'll have to disregard your post. Your wife can't be classed as 'an accessory or fixture'.

You'll have to have another think about it and then post again.

For us it's got to be the kettle. As soon as the caravan is unhitched the kettle goes on for that all important cuppa.

We've forgotten some silly items like the time we went to St Ives with the awning but I left the poles in the garage.

The classic is when Herself had unpacked all the clothes at Pershore and found out that she'd forgotten to pack her drawers!

We had to make an emergency trip into Worcester for her to buy some replacements which for ever after were known as her 'emergency drawers'. (She'll kill me if she sees this)

Lisa, I was going to say Herself as well, cos I can live without everything else, but not her!

I've been wracking my brains, but I cannot remember ever leaving anything major behind. We never take the esentials out of the van, so maybe thats why.

For us its the motor mover, 2 reasons

1/ the van would not get out from its normal resting placeunless we had 3/4 of us pushing it. We couldnt actually get to the camp site without it

2/ health problems prevent me from too much man handling of the van

Have to echo Truckers choice as well.

I need a motor mover partly due to a bad back and partly how I have to get onto my drive.

I live on a dual carriage way and for safety I need to pull fully onto the drive in one go. This means I dont have any space to use the car to place the van.

I was nearly bu99ered last year when we had our new van. Dealer swapped the mover over and it was OK in the workshop. However there was one loose wired and in the journey home it lost its connectivity integrety.

Got home , fully on the drive couldn't move in any direction couldnt reverse due to road and angle of 'attack'. Took me an hour to figure out the problem. I was sweating for a while.

The Dog. After my wife he is my best friend and companion.

We took advice from here and another caravanning web site for the caravan to have it's own equipment, since then we've never left anything behind.
