I'm on my 2nd X-type & really rate the cars.

First was a 2.5 petrol saloon. It was a great tow car. A bit thirsty but rock seady & complely problem free.

I now got a 2.2d estate. I've only towed a speed boat so far though. Solo MPG is 48ish on a motorway run & about 38 around town.

The X type diesel uses modified ford TDCI engines & gearboxes so any Mondeo issues in that area are also applicable to the Jag.

I've not read about X-type Dual Mass Flywheels being any more suseptable to failure than any other make. I think VW/AUDI, Fiat/Alfa & Nissan all have problems, but at the end of the day if you want a modern diesel manual car it's going to have a DMF.

From what i've read its heat that damages the DMF - so any undue riding or slipping the clutch won't help.

My parents have a 2.2D Estate and have towed a 2005 Senator Oaklahoma and now a new Senator Virginia with it.

They love it, and have had absolutely no problems with it.

Not sure about economy, they are currently in Crotia with their outfit so can't ask!

They had a 2.0D saloon prior to the 2.2D and liked it to.
