Hi All
I had a motor mover fitted to my van but the jockey wheel wheel is very narrow and is digging in on soft ground.
I have purchased a newmatic jockey wheel but not sure what the presure of the tyre should be.
does anyone have any idea please?

Thanks Mark

i don't think the pressure of a pneumatic tyre on a jockey wheel is that critical in comparison to the main tyres on the caravan. I had a pneumatic jockey wheel on my last van for exactly the same reasons you are describing i.e. stop it digging in when using the motor mover, I had read online somewhere that it was best to have the tyre slightly soft as this helped to spread the pressure, tried it and it did seem to work. Must admit I never checked or recorded the pressure on the jockey wheel although I do regularly on the main tyres.

The maximum tyre pressure will be found on the sidewall of the tyre itself, but some jockey wheels are not meant for heavy loading and you may find a maximum tyre pressure value on the wheel itself. If this is lower than that shown on the tyre, use the lower value.
You may also find a figure for maxium load to be carried. If so make sure this is above the noseweight of the 'van. Particularly important on larger 'vans where nose weight may be up around 90-95kg.
The van will move better if the tyre is as hard as permitted. The other thing to check is whether you can actually get the connection from your footpump or 12v. pump onto the tyre valve once the wheel is fitted to the jockey wheel mechanism. Some have very wide side plates which can make this difficult.

Hi,my previous pneumatic Jockey Wheel was size 260x85 with a quoted Max of 30psi.I fitted it as a new complete assembly just before leaving site for the trip home & Winter Storage, there was previously a solid rubber tyre on a Metal Wheel assembly that had seen better days (the winder was tight despite service work). All was fine & dandy until after the Winter Storage was over and we went to check out the state of play ready to Spring Clean the bodywork for a stay-away.The corner steadies were raised, the tyre had deflated (un-noticed)and the weight of the van when on the jockey wheel after the steadies were raised crushed the wheel (Plastic !!!).I am a "just in-case it's needed" hoarder and had kept the old solid wheel in a Bed Box;just as well.I changed the wheel over and continued to do what I had set out to do.I had a new/replacement given to me,took it home and inflated it after checking that the valve was not leaking (as was done with the first one).10/12 weeks later:- deflated tyre.I have stayed with old technology.
