Jockey Wheels

The jockey wheel on my caravan is pneumatic and has perished so I decided to replace the tyre and tube. My local tyre people have been able to help and when I did an internet search I could not find a supplier for tyre and tube alone. I did find I could buy a new tyre and tube on a plastic rim for approx £10 or a tyre and tube mounted on a steel rim for approx £20. Any ideas or suggestions or pros / cons would be welcome.

Thanks

Hugh

My local independent tyre firm was able to supply tyre and inner tube from stock. If you are anywhere near Teesside let me know and I will post his details.

Hello,

Fairly new to caravanning. I use a mover on our Bailey Pageant and I have noticed the solid plastic jockey wheel struggling a little on gravel and mud. Will a pneumatic type help? Are they better?

Many thanks

Chris

Hi

Pneumatic are definitely better with a mover on gravel. However - just got back from South of France where mine exploded in the sun. It must have heated up to a point where the pressure was too much - inner jockey wheel was plastic and it was blown apart.

Fortunately no damage done to the caravan and I was able to buy a new solid wheel locally. In future I would cover the pneumatic type with something to keep the heat off it.
